		<description>Thanks for the info. Just a minor comment, which might be even wrong, but afaik Nicolas reverse engineered the swf format instead of using the specs due to the fact, that the license for the spec was somewhat restricted at this time. Cheers, Ralf</description>

		<description>Hi Paul, the scheduling of SWF specs at Macromedia was mostly a resources issue -- there was an all-hands push to launch, and then supplemental projects like localizations and documentation of file-format changes after that. I never saw evidence of competitive delays, myself.

Tidbit: The early SWF SDKs included runtime code. This formed the basis for Oliver Debon&#039;s third-party Player work, which in turn formed the basis of other (all?) third-party runtimes. In a way, today&#039;s news brings things full-circle.... ;-)
